I have not read anything but the headlines when my heart dropped through my toes. Since December, there are so many people that have touched my heart as we've grown close working together on getting the Opuses delivered.
When I saw "Earthquake in Chile" in the news this morning-- my first thought was to write Byfepo and Paly to make sure they and their families both are okay. I just sent the email, so I haven't heard anything from either of them yet.
Please keep the people of Chile in your hearts today. I have asked if there is anything we can do either for our two friends or the country.
I will keep you posted. You can read about the 8.8 earthquake here
Updates: Chile Thankfully I heard from Paly earlier today. I have still not yet heard from Byfepo. I am worried but I know there are still places in Santiago where there is no communications available. As the death toll rises, I ask each of you to pray, ask your higher power and ask to keep the people of the earth safe.
There was strong aftershock in Argentina. Our Velvet is there.
There are also reports of a possible tsunami for Japan and Russia. The tsunami for Japan is expected possibly within the hour as I write this. I just heard there is also a warning for the Philippine Islands.
Keep updated internationally on CNN here
Because of the Opus, each of these countries contains people I have talked to over the last several months, and in many cases a friendship has developed...over the Opus. I sit tonight terrified for each of your safety. Please be safe, and please either email or leave a message as soon as you can. Each and every one of you are so important to me.
My prayers are with you.

when I saw the news this morning and I even felt the earthquake last night ( due to I live in Argentina ), a country next to Chile, my first thought just as Calis was Pali and other people from Chile who I have known during this long Opis waiting,my thoughts and prayers are with them and their families and with the people of Chile in general.
ReplyDeleteAs Michael was saying days before he died, we have to take care of environment, because the earth is angry with us, and it is speaking, screaming to us!,so we have to change our way of living and be more HUMANS with earth and with other people.
Chile: My prayers are with you
L.O.V.E from VELVET
We are still busy and worry about our brothers in Haiti and now we will double our prayers for them and Chile.
ReplyDeleteI live in Mexico. If Byfepo, Paly or other friend need to contact someone here, I can help! My email clorenamijares@hotmail.com

ReplyDeleteThank you so much for your comments and keeping updated on this.
Paly has checked in but Byfepo has not yet.
Please everyone keep your eyes on the tsunamis too. We have MJ family in Japan, Russia and Philippines that are in our prayers as they wait.
I will continue to keep everyone posted. Dancingirl thank you so much for your offer. Bless you my dear.

@Velvet
ReplyDeleteI saw there was a 6.* aftershock in Argentina. Are you okay? (Sending email to check).
I hope you and your family are ok. My thoughts are with the families of everyone who has lost a family member in this tragic disaster.

I feel so sorry for people in Chile. These natural disasters are ruthless. God be with them.
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking that maybe we can do something in Michael's name to help out these victims. Like we did with TEAM MICHAEL with UNICEF.
Lavender,
ReplyDeleteI completely agree. I think we need to wait to see what they will need, as I saw on CNN the President of Chile is saying they are not needing the same help Haiti desperately needed.
Something tells me the quakes and aftershocks aren't over either. Have to watch what happens with the tsunamis too.
I will be on the lookout for the main official organizations who will be helping Chile-- we can set something up with them.

Here is a list of organizations that are currently accepting donations to help the people of Chile.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/02/27/chile-earthquake-relief-h_n_479426.html
On the above list, the ones that might be best-- (as I am watching video from Chile) would be for buildings and to families who have been displaced.
I am asking if UNICEF is going to help Chile but we don't know the needs of Chile yet-- I think rebuilding and getting getting first aid and water to them would be most important right now.
What are everyone's thoughts? Does anyone know of an organization that we should pick?
Concepcion looks like it was hit maybe worse than Santiago. Does anyone know more?
Maybe we should look at adopting one that could be directed to Concepcion?
Just some thoughts.
If you go here-- (from Google.com's main page)
ReplyDeletehttp://www.google.com/relief/chileearthquake/
It has UNICEF listed as a place you can donate.
(just looking for different places we can help make a difference).
Will keep looking.....

Yes, The epicenter was near Concepcion, so it was hit worse than Santiago. In Santiago are places where nothing (but the fear) happened.
ReplyDeleteI'm not an authority of anything, but as I could see in the news, the biggest problems are people who has been misplaced and all the buildings, streets, cities, towns that has been destroyed. So I think the help must go there.
One good point of this is Chile has been built using antisismic systems, that's why Chile wasn't destroyed as much as Haiti. But it was hit most of the country... and we are talkking about 1000 km lenght.
Thanks for everything... and, by the way, if Opus Media group has done ONE thing good, it is that they put us in contact and now we have this friendship,
Thank you Paly. It is good to hear from you and your thoughts on this. When we watch the news, we are outsiders looking in and have to be guided by what the newsmakers are telling us. Hearing from you, and what your country is saying they need or might need, is more direct.
ReplyDeleteOk, so a family displaced means they might need clothing, a place to stay, food, water, shoes, blankets. In the longterm they will need to rebuild their homes that were destroyed. Children would need toys, books, things to entertain them, clothes, etc.
Ok, that gives me some ideas of what type of organizations to look for.
our thoughts and prayers are with you Paly, and all the people of Chile. I am still praying that Byfepo is safe- I have heard nothing yet.

Cali, sweetie!, Im ok, thank you for caring about us!, I have just sent you an email.
ReplyDeleteChile needs everything we can give them, the devastation in same regions are massive.
I cant stop thinking about haw could we help them, the intensity of the earthquake was really strong, and there are still aftershocks there.
Paly!, please be safe!, and keep us updated about you and people there in Chile sweetie!
It is a relief to hear from you Paly, and as Velvet says, please keep us updated about you and your people and be safe. I just hope that Byfepo makes contact soon.
ReplyDeleteVelvet, thank God everything is fine in Argentina.
Dear Cali, I am ready with clothes and toys for babys and toddles. I am also looking for organizations in Mexico which may send the donations.
It was 1994 and I was living in California, close to Oakland and San Francisco, and there was this little shake during the evening, I was just about to sleep. It was so quick that I just had time to realize it was an earth shake. I can not imagine the anguish and fear Haiti and Chile had felt.
My prayers are with you.
Dancingirl
Thank you so much clorenamijares!, and Im watching in the news right naw, that Chile needs: water, food and diapers but the help would take a couple of days to be sent because of the Chilean international airport will be closed a couple of days more due to its damages.
ReplyDeleteMillions of people have lost everything, it was the worst earthquate within the last 50 years, and there are lots of people missing and more than 400 dead so far.
I have prepared mineral water and diapers to be sent when I found where to do it...It is not clear how or where to do it, because it is very recent and they are still having aftershocks...
Actually, the only way to get to Chile is by car, passing for Mendoza ( a region from Argentina bordering Chile ).
My prayers are also with Chilean people and with people in the North of my country who are having aftershocks.
